The Abram
Gaar Mansion is a beautiful example of Second Empire architecture.
It was built in 1876 for Abram and Agnes Gaar. Abram was the
president of the manufacturing company,
Gaar,
Scott & Company in Richmond, Indiana that produced
threshing machinery. |

The Wayne County Administration Building (Courthouse
Annex) was built in 1978 at a cost of $2,175,293.00. This L-shaped
building was designed to provide a visual and physical connection
to the historic Wayne County Courthouse. It provides much needed office
space for county government, such as the Treasurer, Planning & Zoning,
Assessor, as well as the office of the County Commissioners. |

This large stone outside the former New Garden
Meetinghouse near Fountain City, Indiana is called an "upping stone".
It was used to help parishioners easily enter and exit their carriages
or climb on or off a horse when they visited the meetinghouse. |

During the recent (2010) widening and resurfacing of
National Road West (U.S. 40) on Richmond's west side, the contractor
uncovered tracks that were likely from the Interurban trolley line that
ran through Richmond in the early 1900's. |

The First English Lutheran Church
has been a landmark along National Road East, across from Glen Miller
Park for nearly half a century. It serves its parishioners and
welcomes the community as one of Wayne County's

The Wayne County Historical Museum has a new addition to it's log cabin
collection, a log outhouse! Now children can see for themselves
what Grandma and Grandpa mean when they talk about "walking the path" to
the outhouse at their grandparents' house when they were young. |

Murals are not new to Wayne County, Indiana! This mural is located
on the 2nd floor of the Odd Fellows Hall, now the Hagerstown Museum and
Arts Place at 96 1/2 East Main Street in Hagerstown, Indiana. It
was painted by local artist, Charles Newcomb in 1913. |

bicentennial quilt that will be a lasting reminder of
Wayne County's bicentennial
celebration. The quilt was premiered at a reception at the
Wayne County
Historical Museum in June 2010 and will be exhibited in several
locations around the county before returning to the museum. |

This solid looking building is the entrance to the current U.S. Bank
(2010) from North 8th Street. It was originally built for the
Second National Bank, which was established in Richmond in 1872,

was born in this small home just west of Hagerstown, near Millville,
