Recreation Department has an outdoor skate park,

North 22nd and "D" Streets in Richmond, Indiana. |

Hoagy Carmichael is slowly appearing on the south
side of the building that houses Readmore and
the Empire Title Company (formerly Crye
Jewelers) just south of the intersection of Main
and 9th Street in Richmond, Indiana. The mural,
which is being painted by artist Pam Bliss, is a
project initiated by Jim Hair of Richmond Art
Works.
Hoagy Carmichael made the first ever recording
of the song Stardust in Richmond, Indiana at the
Gennett Recording Studios in 1927. |

The original owner of this home, newly opened as a
guest house, was world famous rosarian,
E.G Hill. The Hills were
Richmond entrepreneurs of the mid 1800’s.
The former Hill House is classified as a Stick
Victorian style home. Mr. Hill added
personal flourishes to the early 1800’s
farmhouse he purchased in the 1870’s. He and his
family lived on the west side, while his
business partner and sister, Sarah, lived on the
east side. |

President Benjamin Harrison, 23rd president of the
United States, was in Richmond in 1895 doing law
work for a local trial. While in the
community, local city fathers invited him to
take part in the planting of a white ash tree in
Glen Miller Park. On June 6, 2009 his
great-grandson, Dr. Benjamin Harrison Walker
visited the community to help plant a new tulip
tree near the original ash tree. The tulip
tree is the Indiana state tree. |

1960's, each small community school had their
own mascot that instilled a certain amount of
community pride. Communities may once again face
the loss of local mascots as the state of
Indiana encourages smaller school corporations
to merge due to economies of scale. |

This building at
the corner of North B and 12th Streets in the
Starr District was built as a church for the
Central Christian Church (an offshoot of the
First Christian) in 1914. That congregation
only lasted a few years, and after it folded the
building was an auto repair shop, an overflow
shop classroom for Garfield School, and other
things. The
Wayne County Historical Museum is the
current owner (April 2008). |

Reid Memorial Hospital opened in 1905. The hospital's name was a memorial to benefactor Daniel G. Reid's Reid's wife, Ella, and their son, Frank. The hospital was added on to many times over the next 100 years. The hospital will move to a new facility in 2008. |

This home just north of the Whitewater River in
Middleboro was once a mill. It was built in 1860 by Joseph Cox,
grandson of Jeremiah Cox, a founder of Richmond. It is the second
mill on this property. The first, a stone building that still
stands closer to the river, was constructed in 1826 by Jeremiah Cox II,
son of Richmond's founder. |
