Morrisson-Reeves Library has announced
that their card catalog is
now available via the Internet. Once there, click the
icon. Then, you may search the online catalog, just as if you were at the
library. If you have established a PIN number with the library, you will also be
able to check your customer record or place a hold. If you do not have a PIN
number yet, present your library or PLAC card at a service desk next time you
visit to request one.
Additionally, Morrisson-Reeves Library now has personal computers available for customer use. These personal computers are located in Audio-Visual Services. The computers feature Microsoft Works software that is capable of doing resumes, letters, spreadsheets, and word processing. A color printer is available with a charge of 10 cents a page to help cover the expenses for consumables. Don't forget - the library also has computers for public Internet access.
Finally - of special interest to genealogists and researchers, Morrisson-Reeves Library's extensive Newspaper Index is now online! This index is a collection of local interest articles and obituaries from Richmond newspapers, focusing on the Wayne County area. The Newspaper Index contains information as far back as the 1880's. Local papers such as The Palladium, The Richmond Item, The Richmond Sun Telegram, The Daily Sun, The Richmond Telegram, The Richmond Independent, The Broad Axe of Freedom, and The Grubbing Hoe of Truth are included, as well as many others.
This service is being offered through two grants from the Wayne County Foundation and a grant from Indiana Heritage Research. The grant money is used to pay temporary employees to enter the information into the system. Currently, there are four temporary employees working on the project.
It should be noted that you will not be able to access the actual article online. You will be able to search by words (such as a surname) and then sort by date or publication. By highlighting an article, you will be able to access details about the article, such as the publication, date, and location within the publication. You can then take that information to the library and request the microfilm with that publication and date.
