“What many people don’t realize is that it is also a museum with old vehicles and farm equipment.

That’s right, the Gaar House is a car museum.

The feature car is part of (Joanna) Mikesell’s heritage. A like-new 1958 Olds 98 is proudly displayed in one of the outbuildings at the Gaar House. Mikesell’s father, Joseph H. Hill, well known for his prowess as a rose grower and industrialist, purchased the car from Glen Ridenour Sr. the local dealer, in May 1958. Hill, who was 75 years old at the time, passed away in July of the same year.

The car has remained in the family, virtually unused ever since. It still has the original owner’s manual in the glove box. The ‘50s were the years of gaudiness and excess chrome plating and this car reflects the period. Just seeing this family treasure in the garage is worth the price of admission.”
