[History]

The Richmond Gas Company was Richmond's first utility, organized in 1854.

This former Gas Company building, located at the corner of East Main and North 1st Street in Richmond, was constructed in 1855.

It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981 and is significant for its architecture and craftsmanship.

A feasibility study is being prepared in 2001 by Woolen, Molzan & Partners of Indianapolis to examine possibilities for re-use.
