  • Gary Arndts (Marketing & Creative Services)

  • Jane Holman (WayNet.org)

  • Jodie Johnson (Western Wayne Schools)

  • Dudley Fetzer (First Bank Richmond)

  • Tim Love (Reid HealthCare)

  • Randy Baker (Richmond Power and Light)

  • Beth Fields (Wayne County Government)

Call to Order:

In the absence of the President and Vice-President, Mrs. Jane Holman called the meeting to order at 12:00 PM. The board reviewed the meeting minutes dated April 21, 2011. Jodie Johnson motioned acceptance of the minutes, as presented. Gary Arndts seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

Financial Report:

Mrs. Holman presented the financial statement for review, and pointed out that revenue was up, due to receipt of a Platinum member’s payment. She also pointed out that phone service has been changed to Vonage. Tim Love motioned approval of the financial report, as presented. Jodi Johnson seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

Executive Director's Report:

Jane Holman delivered the Executive Director’s Report and several topics were discussed, including a new member, marketing and advertising Waynet, and her efforts of continuing to work on the layout of the new webpage. She said she conducted usage tests for the new homepage and she was pleased with the results. Mrs. Holman also reported on the website traffic statistics.

New Business:

The group entered into a discussion regarding advertising on Waynet, and whether or not to move forward with a policy regarding selling ads. Mr. Fetzer asked why this idea is being entertained now, and Mrs. Holman said it would generate revenue and any money gained from ads would be used to update equipment, as she is currently using her personal camera, and her PC is 2+ years old, so will need an upgrade in the near future.

The discussion continued, and the board was in agreement if ad space were to be sold, it would be available to members only, and the price and size of the advertisement would be linked to level of membership. Tim Love motioned to move this to the Marketing Committee for further discussion. Jodi Johnson seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

The suggestion was made to investigate using interns in the WayNet office, and a few names were shared as possible sources for interns.

Mrs. Holman mentioned the idea of participating in a web based, photo scavenger hunt, with Waynet members prominently featured. A discussion ensued, and the board agreed that first priority should be website update, and then advertising Waynet, with the scavenger hunt being a “back burner” item. However, a photo scavenger hunt could be an event that would give Waynet good exposure, and additional press.

At this point, acting Secretary Beth Fields turned the recording of the minutes over to Jane Holman.  Discussion of marketing opportunities continued, with Gary Arndts noting that QR Codes are quickly becoming an important marketing tool.  He encouraged the use of QR codes on any advertising piece, business card, or even creating a basic web page with QR Code links to our major pages, like Employment, Weather, Calendar.

Adjournment:

Being no further business. The meeting was adjourned at 1:05 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Beth Fields/Jane Holman
