Issues & Projects for March / April / May

  • Continue efforts to install MS Access v1997. No luck. Chris Mopps came in to see if he could get it working, but no luck either. Chris was able to extract the various spread sheets that make up the Access database. Now I just need to bring them together in either another database program or perhaps just a really large spreadsheet.
  • City of Richmond recently updated their website. Spent 3 hours this week updating our links to their pages, since they did not have redirects set up.
  • Reviewed members' websites and updated our Employment page to include multiple new members who now have job listings on their website, but had not notified us.
  • Large invoice runs for both April and May.
  • I'm receiving lots of calls for multiple agencies from people who do a Google search on their phone and it returns our phone number.
  • Sold photo to Gaar Mansion for use in tourism publications.
  • City of Richmond requested multiple photos for use on their newly updated website. Quoted a reduced rate, based on # of photos purchased. They have chosen approximately 25 images. This recognizes the donated space for our office but also helps to cover the time I spend doing prep to deliver the images.
  • Removed links to "Art Fusion Calendar" after confirming with Shaun Dingwerth that this group is no longer viable.
  • Sold "Canoeing Among the Pond Fires" to Dave Snow for a personal print.
  • Spent a couple of afternoons with "Screaming Frog", reviewing broken links and fixing them.
  • Remove "Reid Babies" link as Reid Health no longer publishes birth information. Do not currently have a source for this information.
  • File tax reports for Federal and State.

Nonsecure Collection of Passwords will trigger warnings in Chrome 56 for http://waynet.org/

    To: owner of http://waynet.org/

Beginning in January 2017, Chrome (version 56 and later) will mark pages that collect passwords or credit card details as "Not Secure" unless the pages are served over HTTPS.

The following URLs include input fields for passwords or credit card details that will trigger the new Chrome warning. Review these examples to see where these warnings will appear, and so you can take action to help protect users' data. The list is not exhaustive.

    http://www.waynet.org/talk/talk/messages/15/57.html?1211921835

The new warning is the first stage of a long-term plan to mark all pages served over the non-encrypted HTTP protocol as "Not Secure".

Here's how to fix this problem:

Use HTTPS pages to collect sensitive information
To prevent the "Not Secure" notification from appearing when Chrome users visit your site, move collection of password and credit card input fields to pages served using the HTTPS protocol.

Note that our unique visits are down significantly, likely due to our site being "dinged" by Google for not being "mobile-friendly".

    Historical Background

The figures that were formerly in this section were created from the statistics generated by the AWStats program offered online by our web host.

One of the major changes that occurred when AMHosting moved our site to a new server was that we no longer have access to AWStats, the statistics program we used for years.

The downside is that we can no longer compare apples to apples when looking at our historical data. The good news is that we have had Google Analytics set up on the site for some time, so we can still maintain a long-term overview by looking at this service.
