Jim Resh Named This Month’s Recipient Award to be presented at the Old National Road Welcome Center
“ONE Great Community Salutes” is a new Chamber program designed to recognize people who do positive things to improve the quality of life in our community.
This month’s recipient of the Chamber of Commerce ONE Great Community Salute is Jim Resh. Resh is the Logistics Coordinator for the Wayne County Convention and Tourism Bureau. He has worked there part-time since his retirement in 2002.
Jim says that he likes to meet people and tell them about Richmond and Wayne County. He has a passion for promoting the assets of our community. It’s evident in his daily duties at the Welcome Center and the special projects he puts his time into. During the recent Richmond Bicentennial Celebration, Jim was responsible for the queen contest as well as the rededication of the tree in Glen Miller Park that had been planted by President Benjamin Harrison in 1895.
Mary Walker, Executive Director of the Tourism Bureau said, “Jim just GIVES tirelessly. In his quiet unassuming way, he is the best advocate Wayne County could have.” She noted that Jim was responsible for the National Christmas tree making its way through Wayne County twice.
Jim is responsible for the gift shop at the Welcome Center, all the supplies and does lots of maintenance. He says his favorite part of the job is the people – the visitors he meets as they come through Wayne County and the staff that he works with. He and his wife, Sandra, always stop at other welcome centers when they travel and look for new ideas they can bring back to Wayne County.
Jim is a 45-year member of the Centerville Lion’s Club and is currently President of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He is also a member of the American Legion.
Jim Resh is a true ambassador for ONE Great Community.
The Wayne County Convention and Tourism Bureau reports that in 2005 over 13,000 visitors came through the Welcome Center. To date in 2006, they have sold 43,000 people in groups to come to Wayne County for special events or conventions.
The Chamber plans to select an award recipient monthly and will be honoring the recipients in different ways throughout the month. The Chamber is asking for nominations from the community.
Nomination forms are available at the Chamber Office, local radio stations, the Palladium Item and on line at www.rwchamber.org.

YMCA Business Offices Relocate to Reid Rehab Location
- October 13, 2006
We are pleased to announce the move of the YMCA's business office to our Reid Rehab location on Chester Boulevard. This relocation has been in the works for some time and we are very excited to finally have our administration, business and member service offices located in the mobile unit behind the Ried Rehabilitation Center.
Our offices at the downtown location will close at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2006. We will be "live" in the mobile unit location beginning Monday, October 16, 2006 at 5:30 a.m.
YMCA operating hours will be from 5:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. For the time being, the fitness center and gymnasium will continue to be unavailable between the hours of 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
All members and guests utilizing the fitness center and gymnasium are to check in at the member service desk located inside the mobile unit and exit back though the mobile unit when leaving the rehab center. The wooden gates located outside the mobile unit are for emergency use only.
All program registrations, membership transactions and business functions will now take place at the Reid Rehab location in the mobile unit. Our YMCA phone number, fax number and email address will remain the same. However, the YMCA's mailing address will change to 2023 Chester Boulevard.
As we transition our business office into the mobile unit and totally vacate the downtown YMCA facility, we ask for your patience and understanding. As with any relocation project there could be inconveniences and/or minor interruptions that cannot be anticipated or avoided.
