Paint-Out at Hayes Arboretum

On Saturday, July 23, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the Richmond Art Club is sponsoring a Paint-Out at the Hayes House on the grounds of the Hayes Arboretum in Richmond (801 Elks Road). This is a rain or shine event. The Richmond Art Club has rented The Hayes House. If it is a nice day, easels can be set up around the grounds and inside for those who prefer to work inside. If it rains, we will all work inside. Bring a tarp or plastic to protect the floors from wet materials.

Bring your cold beverage and lunch and put it in the refrigerator. Restrooms are available in The Hayes House. Plentiful parking is available.

Club members will have to get a token in the Nature Center to enter the grounds. The $3 fee has been paid by the Club, so just tell them your are a RAC member and you can enter the grounds free.

Interested non-RAC members are welcome to join in this event, but non-RAC members will have to pay the $3 fee to enter the Arboretum grounds. Also an additional $2 fee will be due the Art Club for non-member participation.

The Hayes House sits beautifully atop a hill, and is very paintable from various angles. Additional visually pleasing focal points are everywhere to be found.

Plan to attend. If you have questions about this event or about membership in the Richmond Art Club, call Angelo Giannitelli, RAC President at (765) 966-2439 (Evening) or (765) 966-7586 (Day). An RSVP is recommended but not required. Come and join the fun.

There’s Something “Finny” Going on at RCT!

Richmond Civic Theatre will present Stephen Spielberg’s JAWS, on July 29th and 30th. Each showing will begin at 7:30 P.M. Admission is $2.50 per person. Both screenings are sponsored by Waynet.org and will be at the historic Richmond Civic Theatre.

Based on the best-selling novel by Peter Benchley, 1975’s JAWS was the film that started the trend of making “summer blockbuster movies” and made people fear taking a swim almost as much as Hitchcock’s PSYCHO made audiences afraid to take a shower. The aquatic classic landed composer John Williams an Oscar for his immediately recognizable theme music and inspired numerous imitations and sequels. A masterpiece of pacing and storytelling, even the film’s finale—set upon the open ocean—has a certain claustrophobic feel to it. Helping to propel the “fish tale” along is an incredible cast, including Roy Scheider as the police officer who has to fight an image-conscious city hall in order to kill the shark, Richard Dreyfuss as a shark expert and Robert Shaw as the worldly (and world-weary) old salt who’s every bit as dangerous as the shark he seeks. (Shaw and JAWS novelist/screenwriter Benchley would be reunited two years later for another beach-based thriller, THE DEEP.)

JAWS is the 21st presentation of the C. Francis Jenkins Film Society of Richmond Civic Theatre. Future film showings include REAR WINDOW on August 26th and 27th, AMERICAN GRAFFITI on September 23rd and 24th, the HARRY POTTER trilogy on October 28th and 29th, THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK on November 18th and 19th, Walt Disney’s PINOCCHIO on November 25th and 26th, and TOP HAT on December 31st and January 1st.

Richmond Civic Theatre acquired its full-sized movie screen from the old Tivoli Theater, thanks to the generosity of Hoppe Jewelers. Additional thanks are due to Primex Plastics Corporation, The Delta Entertainment Music Corporation, David and Cheri Jetmore, Ernest & Betty Mills of Doan & Mills Funeral Home, Steven and Margery Stoller, Dr. Deborah Wehman of Richmond Podiatry, and Censor Security Systems, who provided funding for the purchase of a new video projector for the Film Society. Donations to purchase video equipment will be accepted at each film series offering. More information regarding RCT Film Series Sponsorship and advertising opportunities is available by calling 765-962-8011.

Identity Theft Workshop

Identity theft is a serious crime that occurs when someone uses your personal information without permission to commit fraud or other crimes. This offense takes months or even years for the victims to correct tampered information and maintain proper credit records. Meanwhile, victims may lose job opportunities, housing, or cars, and could possibly be refused loans or be accused of crimes they did not commit.

Identity theft is also rapidly growing in the Small Business community. Small Business owners, as well as individuals, must learn how to prevent identity theft from happening to them.

Main Street RWC is hosting an Identity Theft Workshop on July 20, 2005. The workshop is presented by the Richmond Police Department, and will be held at the Uptown Innovation Center from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. as part of The Grab a Byte! Tech Forums.

Grab a Byte! Brown Tech Forums are hosted by Main Street Richmond-Wayne County. Networking begins at 11:30 a.m. with the presentation at 12:00 p.m., in the Uptown Innovation Center, at 814 East Main Street, Richmond. If you would like more information please contact Main Street Richmond-Wayne County at 765-962-8151.
