My Mom and a bunch of other ladies from a local club in Winchester attended the show and Mom's name was called to try and win the Polaroid camera that Ruth Lyon's used to give away if you could guess the time within 5 minutes. She nailed the time and won the camera. She still has the picture of her and Ruth Lyons.
I think Carrol McConaha Rhoades used to work at WLW with all the forementioned people. She is still a legend in her own time. A wonderful person, area historian, and terrific Christian lady.
The Pleasant View Community Club made a trip to the 50-50 Club. The club was made up of women who had been members of the Pleasant View Elementary School P.T.A. in Wayne Township and who decided to remain together after their children graduate from the sixth grade at Pleasant View. My mother and aunt participated in this trip, and talked about it for weeks before and months afterwards. It was the highlight of the year for them.
I remember , circa 1965, that we took my grandmother to be in the audience on her birthday once. She was past 90 and got a cake or flowers for being the eldest in the audience.
I vaguely remember a Christmas song Ruth Lyons wrote. If anyone can help me out in finishing the song, I'd appreciate it!
Have a merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas
Have a hap hap hap hap happy holiday
Get yourself into the glow
Underneath the mistle toe
I don't remember the rest of the song..anyone who does?
Thanks!
