Supporting
HELP the Animals
HELP the Animals exists through the generous contributions in
money, supplies, and the time of hundreds of people. Since we
receive no city or county funding, the $130,000 needed to operate
the shelter each year is raised though donations and many, many fund
raising activities.
We
encourage your involvement in our mission to HELP
the Animals by
-
adopting
a homeless animal,
-
by
making monetary or merchandise contributions,
-
by
saving and bring us your aluminum cans so that we may recycle them
for operating funds
-
or
by volunteering your time and talents.
Volunteering
Volunteering at HELP the Animals is extremely rewarding and
flexible to fit your schedule. We are most grateful for one hour a
month or 100+ hours a month! Volunteering opportunities are
unlimited and include:
-
walking
dogs
-
socializing
cats
-
fostering
animals
-
administrative

with our many mailings

Outreach
Programs
Low
Cost Vaccination Clinics
HELP the
Animals has begun a broad ranging and badly needed community
outreach program beyond our basic mission of providing a save haven and
promoting spaying/neutering for all animals. Since 1998 we have
sponsored low
cost vaccination clinics, providing rabies and distemper (feline) or
distemper-parvo-corona (canine) vaccinations. This programs goal
is to vaccinate pets who may not otherwise have the opportunity to be
protected, thereby improving the overall health of these animals and
preventing the spread of deadly contagious diseases.
Spay/Neuter
Program
HELP The Animals Low Cost Spay/Neuter Program is providing affordable
surgeries for 90 cats and dogs each month, thanks in large part to a
grant from the Wayne County Foundation. Individuals eligible to receive
the low cost procedures for their animals must be receiving public
assistance, caring for feral cats, or be able to prove that they need
help in altering a recently rescued cat or dog.
If each of the 90 pets altered at HELP was allowed to produce just one
average sized litter of 5 offspring, 450 puppies or kittens would be
born. In less than one year, those 450 might each produce 5 offspring
resulting in 2250 puppies or kittens born unwanted and unloved. We
expect that HELP's spay/neuter program will literally save thousands of
lives within one year.
Foster Parents
HELP the Animals is always in need of kind, caring and committed people
who would be willing and available to help out with orphaned kittens and
puppies or special needs animals who need a more structured, nurturing
environment. Spring brings it own stresses to any shelter, along with
the lovely weather we have little creatures being born and through many
different circumstances we are required to try to feed and care for
little ones. It cannot be done in the shelter environment and that is
where foster parents come in. HELP will supply the formula and most any
other supplies that would be needed; we would just require a home
environment for these orphans to live in for the first 8 weeks of their
lives.
Where the other animals are concerned, their needs are often an abusive
past where the pet would require a family environment to learn to trust
again and be socialized or an illness where the pet would be better out
of a shelter environment. Again, HELP would provide whatever tools were
needed for these animals as well.
Fostering can be very rewarding and is greatly appreciated and vitally
needed in order to provide the type of care we wish to give our homeless
pets.
