Thank you for your comment on the construction. Our town found out about the construction plans in the Pal-Item the day of a INDOT public hearing at Richmond High School. The community and business leaders attended and expressed our view and concerns just like you have. INDOT was originally going to close EXIT 149 for about 75 days at a time (each loop) and continue on about their way as traffic would have bundled up on I-70, I-40 and Hwy 27. I was chosen to be the spokesperson for the community against closing exit 149 and with the help of all the businesses community members, City Council and Councilman Bing Welch and especially Mr. Tom Raper, we convinced INDOT to keep the exit open! Saving lives, jobs and our insurance rates! The interstate construction on I-70 was not open for discussion, however, I must say the Government did listen and react to our concerns. Surprise, Surprise, Surprise! Thanks INDOT.
